One of our favorite trade shows has come back NYC’s Jacob Javits Center. The Summer Fancy Food Show is North America’s largest specialty food and beverage event. As gift editors it gives us a chance to search for, sample and spread the word about the latest food gift trends. The event touts 180,000 products from sweets to snacks, spices to coffees, organic to ethnic and everything in between that represent 80 countries and regions worldwide.

So what’s hot in the world of gift-able gourmet treats? We’re excited to share our Fancy Food Show finds so get your taste buds ready for a culinary adventure! Here’s one that caught my eye.

THE PRODUCT:  Wild Ophelia chocolates  (available now for around $4 a bar)

There is certainly no shortage of chocolate showcased at the Fancy Food Show, so if you wanna get noticed, your chocolate has to be really fun and special if you want to stand out in the crowd.

Vosges Haut-Chocolate  has made their mark offering fine chocolates with intriguing flavor twists (Dark Chocolate Bacon Bar anyone?)

Recently Vosges launched a “younger sister” brand called Wild Ophelia. Sourced from all natural (and often organic) American ingredients piggybacking on the American farming trend, Wild Ophelia bars are delectably unexpected treats. Curiosity has to be piqued when bars such as “New Orleans Chili” (dark chocolate) and “Sweet Cherry Pecan” (milk chocolate) are part of the initial 8 flavors launched. See the full chocolate bar line up.

Inspired and made from all-American ingredients, each bar will run around $4 at one of the gourmet shops offering their wares or you can order a Wild Ophelia 4-bar gift set online for around $14.

Bottom line: Chocolate is a time tested gift. If you know a chocoholic with an experimental or creative streak Wild Ophelia chocolates are certainly worth a try.
