The end-cap to summer, Labor Day weekend is the perfect excuse to gather together your friends and family. Get in those outdoor games, barbecue dinners and lazy, sun-drenched afternoons while you still can, before the nippy fall weather arrives. I’ve included a few of my favorite recipes and some new ideas I have gathered for you, picking dishes that are delicious but won’t take too much of your time away from your guests. For example, instead of a salad, put out a try of chilled vegetables such as snap peas, asparagus spears, and baby zucchini served with a tangy dip. It’s so easy to prep that the night before the party. But whichever food you choose to serve, Happy Labor Day and enjoy!

Watermelon salad with mint and lime makes a great starter. For the entrée, steamed mussels with tarragon is a showstopper, especially when the mussels are cooked in white wine with Asian sambal. Serve it with toasted baguettes. Or, if you prefer a meat entrée, try grilled lamb chops.

Grilled Lamb Chops

For beverages, try the Peach Donkey, a mixture of ginger liqueur and peach nectar or purée. Or make a nonalcoholic drink, like Cucumber Lemonade.

To make it even easier on yourself, consider ordering dessert. Two classics are a peach/berry pie, or gourmet Whoopie Pies.

Good friends, good food and sweet desserts. Now this the perfect ending to the summer!
