Gifts for Tween Girls
Tween girls are one of the most difficult categories of people to shop for. A tween is age 9 to 12, that lovely middle school age where they are just starting to be too old for “kid stuff” but not yet a teenager who has fully established their own tastes and style. As opposed to most easy-to-please little ones, tweens tend to be a little more vocal than their younger counterparts when they don’t like something. Which makes it extra difficult to find them the perfect gift. We’ve come up with some tips for shopping for tween girls, so you get it right and don’t become the uncool aunt or neighbor.
Help Them Impress
The tween age is a tough time socially for a lot of young girls, so try giving them something that helps them bond with their besties. Good bets include a karaoke machine or a jewelry making kit for a group. You’ll be the most loved gifter, and they’ll be the coolest girl in class.
Give Them Options
Chances are, you won’t find something that they will love on your first shot, especially in the clothing or accessories department. Order a bunch of options and let them pick out their favorite. This way, they are involved in the choosing process and they won’t say nay just because it’s something their mom or grandma picked out for them.
Or, offer to take her and a friend to the mall, and give them space when choosing what they are looking for (make sure to specify spending limits and final approval, of course.) If you try to push something on a tween girl, they will probably like it less (unless you are their cool teen cousin or the sales girl at Forever 21.) If you are shopping on Gifts.com, ask them to send their Top 10 wishlist and you can choose from there.
Let Them Express Creativity
This the best stage in life to encourage girls to start expressing their creativity. Give them something that they can have a handle in creating, like a make your own lip gloss kit or perfume laboratory.
