Inside the Beach Bag: Teen Guys

One of the most quintessential parts of the summer is going to the beach. It’s one of those fantastic experiences that almost everyone loves and everybody has their favorite activities. I, for instance, love reading magazines and soaking in the rays, while others prefer swimming or playing beach volleyball. After my first beach trip of the summer, I started thinking about beach bag essentials; everyone has their must-haves for a day at the beach. For kids, that includes beach pails and shovels, but what would a teen guy want in his beach bag? He probably needs some help with that, so read on for my list of beach bag essentials for teen guys!

The Bag

Guys like to keep things casual and comfortable–they don’t want to be seen as trying too hard–so a backpack is your best bet. Try one like the Herschel Pop Quiz Backpack ($70). If the camo is too bold for his tastes, this backpack also comes in solid colors. Plus, it has a padded sleeve for a laptop so he can later transition into a student during the dreaded back to school time.

The Essentials

Think flip-flops, sunglasses and board shorts. I like Havaianas ($24) for their classic and affordable styles. They are super comfortable and slip off with ease so he can be barefoot in seconds. For swimming, Patagonia’s Minimalist Board Shorts are sure to make a splash! They are colorful and the classic brand name ensures quality (he won’t be able to ruin them doing cannonballs or running on the beach). Lastly, no summer day is complete without a cool pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses ($135), worn by generations of cool young dudes.

Next he will need a few activities to enjoy the day. How about giving him an iLuv Mobiout Bluetooth Speaker ($68.55)? I keep one in my bathroom for shower time because it’s splash resistant; he can enjoy beach tunes all day and not worry about a little water affecting the speaker. It’s also Bluetooth compatible so he can sync up his tablet, phone or laptop to it. Plus, it’s lightweight and portable. If he is more of an active guy, pick up a new boogie board or water game. The Atom Skimboard ($44.69)  is super fun for the beach and has a cool Hawaiian-meets tattoo-inspired pattern on it. He will love skimming along the shore on this puppy.

Lastly, make sure he stays protected with sunscreen. Guys hate putting any goo on their skin, but sun protection is important. This beach bag gift is sure to make any teen guy in your life happy–and the envy of all his friends at the shore.
