To those readers unaware, I am the Guru for all things “Teen” here at Gifts.com. That means I spend a good portion of my time scouring the web to find the coolest blogs and inspiration for the newest and hippest stuff in youth culture. When I started seeing a variety of ’90s inspired iconography and influx of rainbow colored hair all over the internet, I knew I was on to something. After a little research I discovered the blossoming teen trend of Seapunk. Basically a Seapunk is someone who is inspired by 1990′s fashion, music and culture; more specifically, it is a subgenre heavily inspired by the internet which focuses on the color turquoise, dolphins, nautical themed clothing and iconography including Ying-Yangs, happy faces and brightly colored animals. Confused yet? Think ‘90s raver meets rapper meets grunge. A few celebrities currently rocking the trend include Katy Perry, Rhianna and Azealia Banks.

In order to more easily understand this unique trend, check out our Pinterest board ‘90s Revival where I have collected my personal Seapunk inspirations. Now that you know about it, you will see it everywhere, and it might even help you find the perfect gift for that seapunk teen who you didn’t understand until now.
