Barbie’s Newest Career…Architect

Barbie is leaving her pink palace and jet-skiing behind to delve into her new serious career…architecture. This little lady has had more careers than you can count. From rockstar, pet veterinarian, news anchor, and last year’s computer engineer. It seems her baby-sitting days are behind her, given the trend of careers released over the past couple of years.

But now that Barbie has an eye for design, or her old dream house just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. So along with the release of the doll, Mattel teamed up with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to challenge them to design a new dream house for Barbie.

Along with having a space to accommodate her over-the top lifestyle (think of all the outfits she’s accumulated over the years!), it also had to be designed with sustainability in mind. After almost 9,000 votes from the public and Barbie fans alike, the winning design was revealed. Situated on the coast of Malibu, Barbie’s new digs feature solar paneling, a rooftop greenhouse, bamboo flooring, and everything required of a certified “green building”

The purpose of the partnership was to introduce interesting careers paths to young girls and get them involved in architecture. The AIA also hosted hands on workshops to teach girls more about the field of architecture.

I can’t wait to see what Barbie’s next career will be. Hopefully it will further inspire young girls to think about all the exciting future career options they have before them.

What do you think Barbie’s new career should be?
