Bubba Gives Back!
Bubba Watson wore the same thing four days in a row. Usually pulling something like that will get you noticed, and often not in a good way.
But when you win the 2012 Masters in stunning fashion the world tends to notice and wants to know more. So…what’s the story with Bubba’s gear?
Bubba team teamed up with his sponsor Travis Mathew and wore the first installment of the “Travis Mathew and Bubba Watson Grand Slam Drive for Charity” (video below). The gear featured his bright white polo and matching belt with some unmistakeable pink accents. The polo/belt combo were produced in a limited edition of 100 and quickly sold out with $20,000 (100% of the proceeds) being donated directly to Fresh Start. Fresh Start (video below) is an organization that provides cosmetic reconstructive surgery for children with physical defects or disabilities.
And it gets better, because the entire run of the gear sold out, an additional $50,000 will be donated to the City of Hope, a California based cancer research center.
As “first installment” implies, Bubba will be wearing subsequent collections at future majors (golf’s most prestigious events). So what will Bubba wear at the U.S. open in June? My guess something as equally eye catching as his Masters gear, but it really won’t matter too much as it’s sure to be another huge win for the “Travis Mathew and Bubba Watson Grand Slam Drive for Charity”. And while there is long and growing list of reasons to love Bubba Watson, hopefully a legacy of Bubba’s Masters victory is even more golfers (and athletes) using their sponsorship partners to raise awareness and funds to worthwhile charities.
So how’s this all tie into gifting? The U.S. Open ends on Father’s Day. Tons of dads love to golf.
It’s hard to imagine a better Father’s Day gift than a great golf ensemble that furthers a super cause.
