CES 2012 Favorites: Star Wars for XBOX Kinect in 3D
The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world’s largest consumer technology trade show. Nearly 150,000 attendees are on hand to check out over 2500 exhibitors showcasing their latest products on more than 1.6 million feet of exhibit space. This trade show is massive!
Since consumer electronics are the hottest and (still) fastest growing gift segment, CES gives me a chance to get an early look at some great gadgets. CES also is a great place to spot the bigger picture trends in the electronics arena.
The sheer amount of products at CES is staggering, but I have turned Las Vegas upside down and found some cool ones that should make great gifts. Here are some of my favorites from CES 2012.
The Product: Star Wars for XBOX Kinect in 3D (availability and pricing TBA)
The Scoop: It gets pretty exciting to think about all the potential 3D console gaming holds. Yet, this 3D gaming category feels a little slow in developing. But this year at CES, Microsoft demoed the “Star Wars” for Kinect title. While it was mentioned there would be multiple 3D game play elements within the game, the portion of the demo was a pod racing game.
It’s fair to say gamers should be quite excited for this one. The clever motion-control game play opts not to use simple car steering motion, but uses steering motions combined with hands in pushing and pulling movements to control the game play. The 3D effects are striking and are equally exciting to watch and play. And with the possible inclusion of motion play light saber battles included in Star Wars for Kinect, the mind races of all the 3D fun just around the corner.
