Fall Fashion Trends for Teens

Put away your bathing suits and flip-flops and start unpacking those sweaters and boots because fall is here! Teens might be incredibly difficult to buy for but hopefully my handy trend reports will make even the choosiest of teens into happy recipients. I have scoured the runways for the best of the best so enjoy and gift away!

Guys:

This year in men’s fashion I noticed several overarching trends for teen guys. First off, the preppy look is here to stay. Guys can look forward to another season of bow ties, brogues and blazers. Suits are a huge fad of the moment, but teens can try the look and still keep it age appropriate by pairing a blazer over any casual pant. Try mixing up the look with a blazer in a unique material (like this chambray one) or a pair of brogues that have a pop of color!

Another huge trend for the gents is prints. Prints on denim, prints on shoes and lots of prints on shirts. Favorite patterns for guys this season include polka dots, camouflage and the continuation of the Hawaiian print trend.

A few other cool trends of the moment are denim shirts, colorful sneakers and preppy cardigans. Also anything military inspired, whether camo or simply the color olive, will be a hit with the teen set! Shop these picks and more!

1. Tartan Bow Tie, $52

2. Stripe Silk Bow Tie, $52

3. Wallace and Barnes CamouflageShirt, $168

4. Stussy Island Style S/S Woven, $74.99

5. Hawkins McGill Colorblock Cardigan, $44

6. Levi’s 511 Elm Tree Powder Jean, $58

7. Your Neighbors Mod Polka Dot Shirt, $54

8. Vans Rata Vulc in Classic Blue Aloha, $57.99

Gals:

The runways this season were chock full of different fashion looks for teen gals! I think the biggest trend of the season is peplums. If you aren’t familiar, it’s when clothing has a piece of extra fabric attached to the waist (in the form of ruffle or, skirt or overlay); peplums are being sold in abundance at retail outlets and are all over the runways so this is a must have for teen girls!

Another trend of the moment is collars. Made popular last year with the Peter Pan style, collared shirts and even collar necklaces are all the rage right now! Whether pointed, rounded or in jewelry form, this adorable fad is easy to wear and runs the gamut in its fan base.

Color is still a huge trend this season, but think dark. Burgundies were all over the runway (even on lips) this season. Other shades of red are still huge even in the bold classic shade or the Color of the Year, Tangerine.  Other dark colors to look out for: navy, olive and black (specifically in the popular leather looks found this fall).

Accessories are always a must for teens. Besides donning your favorite collar necklace, booties are still the biggest shoe trend of the season. Coming in many varieties, there are suede, wedge and platform styles, leather, studded, lace-up and even colorful ones! The bootie trend isn’t going anywhere so make sure and pick up a pair!

Another popular trend is the 90s grunge look. Although this look has been widespread for the last few years, this look is still a hit with teenagers and adults alike! A few ways for teen girls to try this trend is through leather, plaid, maxi skirts and dresses, hats and chunky sweaters. I suggest trying this open weave sweater in the super autumn-prevalent off-white.

Lastly, anything with fur (faux is ok), patterned denim, or military inspired will be a hit with the teen gal in your life. Have fun gifting and have a fabulous fall. Shop these top picks for teens and more!
