Gift Fair Favorites: Latico Leathers Amazonia Collection
The New York International Gift Fair is the bi-annual industry gathering for the gift industry. The tradeshow is THE place where 35,000 attendees from all over the globe come to see both the latest trends if gifting as well as to get a look at what the “must-have” gifts will be in the coming months.
While there’s literally over a half million square feet devoted to all types of gifts. The Gift Gurus hit the NYIGF floor in search of fun, unique and ultimately very “gift-able” products from the countless gifts on hand. Here’s one I love:
The Gift: Latico’s Amazonia Collection (available now ranging in price from around $50 to $200)
The Scoop: New Jersey based leather company Latico is known for their classic and feminine designs. In that arena, their new Amazonia collection doesn’t disappoint. At first glance I thought I was looking at lizard or python or some other reptile skin on this glamorous looking line. But, I quickly learned that I was mistaken. This line doesn’t just have a stunning look and feel; it’s eco-friendly too. They have managed to find a way to take something that would otherwise end up in the garbage and make it into something beautiful.
This is a perfect example of what we’re calling “scrapcycling”. Are you ready for the secret? They use discarded hen feet and make gorgeous leather from their skins. You have to see it to believe it, but this stuff is really nice. My favorites are the Dakota wallet and the Yale tote. I was blown away when I saw it at the gift fair and had to share the story.
A Great Gift For: This makes the perfect gift for the non-vegan eco-maven on your list or for any woman who loves her animal prints and snake skins.
