The Gift: EarPollution CS40s Chromatone Headphones by iFrogz (available now for around $50)

The Scoop: Quality headphones are a consumer electronic necessity, so I’m always on the hunt for the next great pair. For me, the ultimate pair of headphones strike a balance of super sound, supreme comfort, exceptional value and eye-catching style. For the past few weeks, I’ve been wearing the CS40s headphones* at work and on my commute. These headphones rate very high in all the categories I look for in headphones!

First off, and most importantly, the CS40s sound great. While not “noise-canceling”, the headphones have nice ear coverage and just the right amount of pressure on the ears to isolate the music (movies, phone calls, etc). The CS40s hit a great balance of the right amount of thumpy bass with crisp clear highs. Overall, I found the sound quality in line with many pricier options.

As for comfort, the instant you put the CS40s on, you’ll love the way your ears are enveloped by the soft and cushy AeroFoam ear pads. The lightweight, ideal against-ear pressure of the CS40s made them the rare find of headphones that can stay on hours at a clip without the slightest bit of discomfort.

Shelling out big bucks for headphones in some ways makes little sense. There is tons of value to be seen in the sub $100 headphone category. At around $50, the CS40s provide exceptional value.

But the hardest thing to ignore about the CS40s is the seven bright and bold color options. Whether it’s a girly pink or purple for the ladies or a mocha or dark green for the fellas, these headphones will certainly go noticed. If style points count, the CS40s score huge.

The cherry on top for the CS40s is the inclusion of the in-line microphone. When attached to your mobile phone, the headphones easily allow for taking calls and then resuming playback of whatever you were listening to.

Great Gift For: music lovers who need to balance great sounding tunes with head turning style…even while on the go.
