Gifts for Beauty Addicts: The Scoop on Fall 2013
Fall is, in my opinion, the most fabulously gorgeous season (at least it is in New York City, where I live). The foliage sets the scene, helping usher in all things pumpkin-related, the return of football, apple picking and other autumn rituals. I love pulling out my favorite cozy sweaters, boots and jackets as soon as the temperatures drop. And I love checking out all the latest fall fashions, too, and researching the new beauty products and trends; luckily for me, that is part of my job at Gifts.com. If you are looking for a gift for a fashionable woman, read on, because we have the sneak peek on fall beauty.
Since color palettes tend to darken in the fall and winter, a dramatic eye is almost always in style. The Too Faced Smokey Eye Shadow Collection ($36) will help her create the dramatic look she desires with helpful lesson cards that give easy step-by-step instructions. The nine shades allow for a range of sultry looks spanning from daring daytime diva to vivacious evening vixen.
One trend I noticed on the fall runways was the return of punk and grunge beauty looks. Think dark lipsticks and smudged eyeliners. The butter London Lips & Tips Duo ($22) comes with a lip-gloss and a nail lacquer in a rich burgundy shade. The duo is just dark enough to give a grunge illusion while still being wearable.
Though bold punk looks are a prominent trend for fall, on the opposite end Marie Claire notes that fresh-faced, minimal looks will also be huge. The best way to rock the minimal look is with a subtle pink lip color and little else (maybe a dab of mascara and a light blush). I like the NARS Baiser de Feu Lip set ($49) as it features the same soft pink in three texture applications.
Metallics also ruled the runways, as they normally do in those months leading up to the holidays. You can tap into that trend with Essie’s Fall Collection ($17), which is undeniably awesome as an under-$20 gift idea. There are lots of palettes that help create fall’s metallic look; my favorite being the Yves Saint Laurent Pure Chromatics Palette ($55). It features four luxe colors, which use a special water-process to allow for intense, metallic pigments.
For hair trends, braids are still going strong. The “milkmaid” and other unusual braid styles are both in, as are glam ponytails. For more beauty inspiration, check out our beauty gifts at Gifts.com, as well as for braided hairdo inspiration.
