The Gift: The Garmin Approach G6 (available mid February 2012 for around $300)

The Scoop: CES is a both a paradise and playground for geeks of all stripes. One of the niche-iest in the geek spectrum is the Golf Geek, but rest assured CES 2012 didn’t forget forget the gadget loving golfer.

Garmin used CES to announce their latest entry into the golf GPS category with the Approach G6 device. The G6 is a three ounce, pocket sized power house loaded with features to make it the “position A” choice for golfers. Pre-loaded with over 25,000 courses from around the globe, the G6 literally will give golfers the world in the palm of their hand.

The G6 also serves as a golfer’s best friend on the links by keeping track of the stats golfer’s love to keep like Greens in Regulation, putts per round, and fairways hit. Not surprisingly, the G6 allows golfers to keep score for a foursome for many popular scoring formats including using adjustable handicaps. Also, when a golfer inputs the club they hit, the G6 will calculate exact yardage that club gave them (and average distance for each club). All this really cool information is downloadable as well.

As for hitting the ball long and straight? You’re on your own.
