When you think of your favorite childhood book growing up more than likely at least one of them was written by the most famous doctor of all time, Dr. Seuss. With the upcoming new Dr. Seuss movie The Lorax just days away I thought it would be fun to give some fun facts about Dr. Seuss and his books.

1. Dr. Seuss real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel, but is known as Ted to family and friends

2. The word “nerd” is introduced in the book If I Ran the Zoo.

3. Dr. Seuss has no children and has been famously quoted, “You have ‘em, I’ll entertain ‘em.”

4. It took the Grinch 53 years to finally put a plan into stopping Christmas from coming.

5. Dr. Seuss wrote the book “Green Eggs and Ham” because his publisher bet him $50 he could not write a book using only 50 words.

6. Publishers Weekly compiled a list of the best-selling children’s books of all time out of the 100 books compiled, 16 were written by Dr. Seuss.

7. Both the Grinch and the Cat in the Hat were based on Dr. Seuss himself.

8. Dr. Seuss license plate read “Grinch”.

9. The Cat and the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham are Dr. Seuss most popular books.

10. Lastly today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday, he was born March 2, 1904.

Dr. Seuss wrote books that made children discover a whole new world of words and creatures. His books have a way of making you imagine the impossible and that if we try we can do a whole lot better. My mother gave me the book Oh, the Places You’ll Go! after I graduated high school because she loved how direct and simple Dr. Seuss message was in the book. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!
