As the kid’s gift editor, I am constantly seeking new trends and have just compiled a list of my Summer 2012 Kiddo Style favorites for some warm weather inspiration.

This summer is all about simple, light pieces that are play friendly and easy to care for. You’ll see lots of nautical stripes, summer plaids, ruffles, bright & bold colors and fun fedora hats.

Nautical Stripes are one summer classic that I’m glad is back this year. I love this trend for kids because it looks great in any style such as dresses, shorts or a classic tee.  77 kids and J.CREW has a great selection for both boys and girls.

Summer colored plaids are also showing up for both girls’ and boys’ styles this season. Girls’ plaid pastel dresses by Crewcuts are perfect for a tea party, brunch or any summer shindig. Boys will look laid back and cool with preppy basics from Ralph Lauren and Gap Kids.

Ruffles are also showing up in different styles this summer. Go bohemian chic in a long ruffle skirt or put her in a fun ruffle dress to for a barbeque or a Fourth of July celebration.

Bright and bold colors are are big for everyone this summer! Add a fun bright graphic tee with a pair of shorts for an effortless playtime look. I also love bright denim or dresses to add a little more sunshine to any kid’s wardrobe.

Accessorize…Accessorize!  Add a fun fedora to any outfit. This hat is perfect for both boys and girls to create a cool, effortless look. Not to mention, the hat covers up their crazy summer hair! Also don’t forget the shades.  A pair of aviators or colorful sunglasses to add the final touch and protect their eyes from the sun!
