As the official kick-off to summer draws near, people are making their last minute Memorial Day plans for the long weekend. While the original intention of the holiday is to honor fallen soldiers, it’s become more of a symbol of celebrating the American way of life.

Whether that’s flocking to the beach, roasting hot dogs, watching fireworks, or just barbequing in the backyard with your friends and family, there’s endless ways to celebrate this patriotic holiday and the start of summer. While it’s not thought of an occasion that calls for gift giving, there’s still plenty of  fun gear out there to get you psyched for the summer.

You can surprise the kids with new beach gear, get your favorite host or hostess some backyard entertaining essentials, or treat yourself to some new grilling tools. For those with travel plans this summer, we’re also giving away a very cool car rack luggage bag.

Perfect for those times when the trunk never seems big enough, this waterproof pack expands up to 12 cubic feet, so you won’t have to worry about packing light. If you’re going to be more doing more flying than driving this summer, then be sure to check out our resident gadget expert, Guru Dan T, for his ultimate summer travel gadget picks.

From casual backyard parties, to summer soirees, we’ve found some great ideas for entertaining this holiday weekend. Check out one of our favorite sites, SheKnows, for some easy and affordable tips to throwing a memorable summer bash this Memorial Day. I for one, am a huge fan of Micheladas, the ultimate summer drink for adults, and an interesting alternative to just serving buckets of beer.

No matter how you celebrate this weekend, we hope you relax, enjoy and hopefully get a lot of sunshine (and don’t forget the sunblock!).
