Nerd Alert: Newest Addition to “Game of Thrones” Series
Thanks to HBO’s recent adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series “Game of Thrones”, it’s now “cool” to like fantasy fiction. Or at least for now. This wildly successful book series has been somewhat under the radar of the mainstream until now. While the premiere season wrapped in June, new and old fans alike can finally get their hands on some new material with today’s release of “A Dance with Dragons”.
After a 6 year hiatus, the series “A Song of Ice and Fire” returns with the release of the fifth book in the series. And I thought it was hard waiting for a TV series to return! While I wouldn’t call myself a fantasy fiction buff by any means, there’s a reason why the series is so popular across all demographics. A mix of power struggle politics, family history, war, love and a slight supernatural element, every book in the series is highly addictive and quick page-turners. While the violent aspect might appeal to younger male readers, I’d definitely say these are R-rated novels that deal with strong adult themes.
But that’s not to say the books don’t have a lot of female fans. With rich storytelling and strong female characters, it’s a series that has something to offer everyone. For those who are new to the series, I highly recommend getting them the box set rather than buying them one at a time. And for those of who are already fans of the series (myself included), pick up the long-awaited copy of “A Dance for Dragons” today!
