Oktoberfest Traditions and Gifts
Oktoberfest is a 16 day festival in September through the first weekend of October in Munich, Germany celebrating all things beer! An important part of Bavarian culture, Oktoberfest has been celebrated since 1810 and is the largest fair in the world. Although it started as a wedding and subsequent anniversary celebration of a Prince and Princess who wed in October; Oktoberfest was moved to September because the weather is better and means it will be a better party. Along with traditional German cuisine and typical fair events, Oktoberfest beers are proudly served under the confines that they must be 6% alcohol and brewed in Munich. Despite the strict rules around the Munich Oktoberfest beer, people around the world celebrate the festival in their home towns annually by being less discriminating and consuming their favorite brews Munich made or not!
From high end to low end, there are beer themed gifts for beer lovers of all different walks of life. For young adults or party-loving types, there are beer-guzzling helmets and silly beer koozies. For the older crowd, try a beer variety basket or personalized mug. For aficionados, I suggest brewery tours or home brewing kits. Whoever the recipient, I suggest getting together with friends and family and enjoying a beer together to celebrate this fun occasion. Cheers!
