Old School + New Cool = Geek Drool

As we’re now under 100 days until Christmas, the Gift Gurus have just switched into a higher gear as it’s time to start really prepping up for the Holidays (can you believe it?).

Pepcom’s “Holiday Spectacular” couldn’t not have come at a better time. Pepcom’s annual consumer electronics showcase for press and media gets circled on the calendar each year as a great event to see what electronics, gadgets and gear will be on everyone’s wish lists for the holidays. 2011 looks to be another fun year in the world of CE after seeing some great products on the show floor. Here’s a few I really like as great gifts.

The Gift: The Atari Arcade (available in October for around $60)

The Scoop: The kitsch factor is off the charts with the Atari Arcade. The Atari Arcade is an iPad dock that allows you to play all your Atari favorites with an old school arcade game play flavor. The Atari Arcade is meant to run games found on the “Atari’s Greatest Hits” app (sold separately for around $10 for 100 Atari games via Apple’s App store) which will allow you to geek out on such classics as Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Pong and my favorite, Tempest!

With the iconic red-topped joystick and familiar game buttons, the only thing missing is the slots to put the quarters. (That’s right…video games used to run on quarters). Play on players!
