Seeing Double : Designer Inspired Finds

I’ve always been a sucker for a bargain. I understand that buying designer items is considered an “investment” but with my budget tight these days and my tax return already spent up, sometimes a it’s hard to resist buying a copycat. Now I’m not one of those people who buys knock-off bags out of someone’s trunk, but I do know a good deal when I see it. So until my fashion fairy godmother shows up with a Hermes Birkin in hand, here are some fashionable steals the Guru team has dug up that had us doing double takes.

One of the “it” bags of the season, and for well over a year now, is the PS1 Bag by Proenza Schouler (as seen above). Its cult status among celebrities has been well documented, so it’s no surprise that people have been clamoring for this look alike messenger satchel from Target. It’s crossbody style and trendy turnlock, make it the perfect bag to travel about town. I won’t be surprised if this bag turns up on many a college freshman arm come this fall.

Believe it not, swimsuit season is upon us. With Memorial Day right around the corner, everyone’s already making beach plans and opening up their pools for the season. When it comes to swimwear, why not save your money for travel funds rather than something that gets worn one season out of the year? Two-pieces are always a great standby, but one-pieces are all the rage this year.

Both figure flattering and sporty, they come in all ranges of patterns and cuts. For stripe lovers, this one-piece halter from Anthropologie is practically an optical illusion. While the style is great, the price tag is a little steep. Lucky for us, we stumbled upon this nearly identical one-piece from Urban Outfitters for less than $100. It’s great for any beach bound trendy lady or recent graduate who’s shore-bound.

It’s a proven fact that heels make you look better, whether they make you feel better is a whole other question entirely. Give yourself an added boost with a pair of hidden platform heels. Nude shoes and accessories have been turning up everywhere lately. They’re a nice contrast to the bright bold colors that cycle back in every spring and summer. Plus their understated elegance is perfect for special occasions like weddings, graduations or a night on the town. These metallic pumps by Brian Atwood (seen on the left) have been popping up on the red carpet everywhere.

From Victoria Beckham to Katy Perry, they’ve certainly got a devoted celebrity following. Channel your own inner star with these copycat “Russhh” pumps by Steve Madden. They come in a variety of colors and finishes, plus the hidden platform stabilizes your foot and makes them easier to walk in than standard stilettos. After all, most of us don’t get that much practice strutting around in heels. These pumps will certainly score any lady a spot on the best-dressed list.
