The arrival of August can only mean one thing, Shark Week! Kicking off last night and running until August 7, Sharks will taking over the Discovery Channel with more bite, more videos, a new host and shark footage day and night! As someone who grew up watching Shark Week, it’s amazing to see how Discovery Channel has kept Shark Week new and fresh over the years.

The technology to film these creatures and observe them just gets better everyday. And with the new host, SNL funnyman Andy Samberg, I’m sure they’ll be gaining a whole new generation of fans. What’s even better about this year’s Shark Week is non-cable subscribers don’t have to miss out on all the jaw-dropping action. All of the episodes will be available on iTunes along with the new “Ultimate Sharks” app for the iPad and iPhones where you can watch footage, view photos and enjoy the Shark Week experience wherever you go.

While Shark Week is highly entertaining, at its core, it’s an educational series whose goal is to teach society more about these amazing creatures.  As much as I have a healthy fear of sharks, I’m also endlessly fascinated by them. And the more I learn, the more I respect them.  So in the spirit of my favorite week of summer, here are some fun shark-inspired finds to sink your teeth into!
