Toy Trend: The Katniss-ifcation of Toys!
From the tens of thousands of new toys at the 2013 American International Toy Fair, you start to see some distinct trends. Toys like the upcoming REBELLE line from NERF and the AIR HUNTRESS bow from ZING TOYS are not only tapping into the Hunger Games mania, but the bigger picture idea that lots of girls want to play with “boys” toys. It seems like toy makers are finally catching up to the idea that girls just wanna have fun too!
The Scoop: Inspired by Katniss Everdeen’s no holds barred, girl-power style, Zing Toys and Nerf have tapped into an active and edgy play for the young ladies. The Air Huntress is basically a made-over Z-Curve Bow (a Zing Toys best-seller!). Whether she’s playing indoors or outside, she’ll love channeling her inner-Katniss shooting soft-foam-tipped arrows up to 125 feet! Don’t let the pink fool ya, the Air Huntress bow really lets ‘em fly and most certainly are Panem-ready!
Also taking cues from pop Hollywood hits like The Hunger Games and Brave, Nerf is launching an entire line dedicated to bringing empowering active play toys to girls! Later this year, Nerf’s Rebelle (pronounced “reb-BELL”) line up will let girls get into the Nerf shooter and blaster arena…just like their brothers! With an arsenal of toys including the Heartbreaker Bow, the Crossbow and accessories like eyewear and a “Mission Kit”, girls will be poised to take over the block from the fellas.
A Great Gift For: Girls who loved to hold their own against they boys and ladies who have that Girl Power streak running through them!
When & How Much? The Air Huntress is available now for around $30. The Rebelle line will debut this Fall. The Rebelle Crossbow will run around $25 and everything else in the Rebelle line is tentatively priced between $25 and $10.
