Gifts for Gadget Gurus

Still have a few gadgets to buy before Christmas? We got some expert advice from two editors from Apartment Therapy's Unplggd, a site for people who embrace technology and design in their home. They shared their male and female perspectives on what's hot in tech gifts this year.

First up, co-editor Ryan Opina:

Logitech Harmony 1000Logitech Harmony 1000: I like a minimal aesthetic but also like to have all the tech goodies that come with a home theater. Having surround sound, an amplifier, DVD player, media center PC, PVR, and Roku with all their own remotes is the complete opposite of clean and minimal. With the Logitech Harmony 1000, I can hide all those components in a closet or another room use the RF (not IR) contol of this remote and get the best of both worlds.

Slingbox: I travel quite often and usually find myself somewhere between 8 to 10 hours out of my home timezone. What that usually means is the playoff hockey game I desperately want to be watch at home is not an option. With the Slingbox I get the comfort of my TV veg session on my laptop or mobile phone anywhere in the world at any time.

Wood Block Clock

Wood Block Clock: This is just slick. I am a big fan of wood and LED's, put the two together and you have an instant winner in my books. This would look right at home over the mantle of an ultra modern fireplace or an interesting contrast with more traditional decor.

And now here's co-editor Kate Mulinix:

Candela Color LampsCandela Color Lamps: Flameless, flickering LED lights that look just like candles, but you never need to replace them because they never burn down. They recharge on their base, and then you can place them around the house to set the mood.

Digital Picture Frames: These take displaying pictures to the next level. I'm going to be giving more of these as time goes on, starting this Christmas. The options abound, as do the settings, allowing you to set up choices, run slideshows by remote, add music and a few even show multiple photos at once. Add photos before you give it as a gift and your gift will become even more memorable and if the gift receiver isn't particularly tech savvy she'll be forever grateful.

iRobot Scooba 350 Floor Washing Robot

iRobot Scooba 350 Floor Washing Robot: A dream gift for me since we have hardwood floors at home. It would take care of the daily grind that ends up on our floors and tuck itself away without any help from me. How handy would that be? And I'd love to give iRobots for gifts if my budget would allow, how much more would my friends love me then?
