Gift Giveaway: Family Game NightNovember 28, 2008Posted by: Dan T. Family game night is a great tradition that spans the generations. Now more than ever it's so important to get the family to slow down and spend some time together doing something that's fun. So the question is: board games or video games? You're probably familiar with most of the all-time classics like Monopoly, Clue, Operation, Yatzee and Life. But to figure out what game is right for you, try using your kids personality type as a guide. For example, the X-Treme Dude, will love "Skate-It". Likewise, the Trendanista will have a blast singing and dancing along with "Boogie Super Star". And I have a feeling the Smarty Pants will get a kick out of…."Smarty Pants".
The good news is whether you're an old school board game junkie or a new school Wii-fan, Gifts.com has the ultimate family game night giveaway. TWO lucky winners will receive a set of 11 Wii games from Electronic Arts and 8 classic board games from Hasbro
Want to win?, post a comment below and tell us if you're an old school board gamer OR a Wii fanatic AND which game you can't wait to play! Post a comment by 11:59 p.m. EST on Thursday, December 4th. One comment per person, please; multiple comments will be discarded. TWO randomly selected entries will win the game night prize pack. Click here to read the official rules.

Hi Dan! I’m Natalie and I’m 16 from MA. Personally, I think I’m a Wii fanatic. My sister just got the console for her birthday and I think I play it more than she does. (Tennis and Bowling are my fav) The game I can’t wait to play if I win is Boogie Super Star. What can i say… I love to sing and dance and I guess I’m a Trendanista? Haha. Alright, thank you for the opportunity!

Let’s see-I’m a little old school and a little new wave. I love my Wii but I also love to play board games just as much. My favorite Wii game is a toss up between Rock Band and Wii Fit. Board game would have to be the game of Life. Favorite card game Phase 10. I also enjoy playing Zoo Tycoon on my PC.

I am both an old school gamer and a wii fanatic! We have a wii that we love playing, but every time the entire family gets together (usually for holidays and special occasions!), we have family game night. This would be a great give to give to the family for game night! We just bought our parents a wii last year so we could add a new dimension to game night also. Thanks!
Posted by kpow | November 28, 2008 @ 1:48 pm
I am definitely an old school gamer, and an old gamer to boot! (60yrs old). I can’t wait to challenge my grandchildren to a game of Clue. I’m sure the 8 year old will beat me, but it would be fun seeing her figure it all out. And, it might bring me into the 21st century comparing the “old” Monopoly to the Wii version. We always have family game night when the kids are here to visit, old, young, and in between. Thanks.

I am both, old board gamer and new Wii fanatic!
The new Wii has definately replaced the golfing games my husband and I loved to play. We love to bowl in our own home and enjoy the sounds and atmosphere of a real bowling alley. My son has just bought a Wii for his family for Christmas and he is itching to open it up now so they can play at home too!!
This would be a great addition to our family fun night!Posted by cynd | November 28, 2008 @ 1:58 pm
I am a wii fanatic! My wife and I are very competitive, and we always challenge each other on the wii game nights we have frequently. However, we throw in an old school game night every so often. We are getting ready to have our first child early next summer, and I think the game of LIFE could be a good, funny challenge before we start that next phase in our lives.

Oh my Gosh! I’m more excited about this give away than any other! My family loves to play games. I’d say I am an old school board gamer. But I can’t wait to play the Wii games. Thanks for the give away!

I am an old school board playing gal. I am just learning how fun WII is. My favorite board game is Yatzee and my favorite Wii game is bowling.

Hi Dan! We are a family of old school gamers that have just recently caught the Wii bug. I’m totally excited that there is a Wii Family Game Night! What a great idea to promote such an important tradition through a giveaway–kudos to you and your team!

We love family game night, especially Mr. Potatoe head…because when your done, he always looks like someone we know, and we all get to laugh!
Posted by gjideofo | November 28, 2008 @ 5:45 pm
Through generations, our children, now our grandchildren have always loved to come to Grandma’s house to play board games. They love to play Yatzee and UNO. The family, while playing, really gets high spirited and challenged to win. It seems like Mom’s and Dad’s are so very busy these days, it is just fun to identify with Grandma always having time to get a good game going.
Posted by Gram199 | November 28, 2008 @ 5:58 pm
I have to say that I love the Wii … We got it for our 10 year old daughter and we play it more the she does. I still like to play board games once in a while, but we love the Wii. I am actually looking forward to the Family Game Night. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Posted by SingingAngel | November 28, 2008 @ 6:04 pm
Sad and Glad to say I have become a Wii fanatic…board games are fun, but keeping track of points and people cheating makes ya want to bop em on the head, so video games keep things a bit more on an even keel…can’t cheat too much that’s for sure :).
My favorites right now are Wii sports and Wii Fit which I’m happy to say has helped me lose 8 lbs. since July…yay!!!Posted by hamsterwheel | November 28, 2008 @ 7:33 pm
I grew up as a classic board-gamer, but now I’m all about the wii! The wii seems to get everyone involved whenever it’s on. I love Boom Blox, it’s simple and fun and all ages can enjoy it.

i’m a wii fanatic and would love to try this one out!
Posted by godan | November 28, 2008 @ 11:40 pm
This is a great way to play old school games in a way the kids can relate to more. Perfect bridge for the generations. I’m excited about all the games but have to say I can’t wait to see what Mr. Potato Head is all about.

I love all games that we can play as a family! Wii is the first video game that we can all play together. We play Sorry and all the Uno variations lots. Popular Wii games for us are Mario Party 8, and Super Monkey Ball. We are in hopes of Santa bringing Wii Rock Band.
Posted by mom1st | November 29, 2008 @ 6:40 am
I love our Wii! It gets the whole family together even if we’re just watching one another play. I think Smarty Pants would be great for my family - we each think we know it ALL…
Posted by mjh | November 29, 2008 @ 11:28 am
I definitely love the old board games for the sake of interaction…which is exactly why I am becoming such a Wii fan! More than any other video game system the Wii brings the family together for a little fun. I am looking forward to playing with the Wii fit soon!

Thanks ShandaPosted by shandawegr | November 29, 2008 @ 12:38 pm
I am definitely a board game kindof girl - whenever we have family get-togethers, we break out the games. But I’ve been asking for a Wii and am really looking forward to seeing how it measures up to the old fashioned gaming!

Posted by blsummers | November 29, 2008 @ 1:10 pm
I consider myself a Wii fanatic and a “classic” gamer. My husband and I love to play both once the kids go down. It’s like a pseudo date night(we are corny, I know) For Wii, we love MarioKart and the Carnival games. The family game night would be perfect!
Posted by Acaprio | November 29, 2008 @ 3:15 pm
Hey guys; thanks for the chance to win. I grew up playing monopoly and poker but I love what the Wii has done for our family time. The kids love it and so do their Dad and I. Good luck to everyone but I hope to win.
Posted by lottamomma | November 29, 2008 @ 4:02 pm
Our family love the old games: risk, life, monopoly and a variety of card games. We have recently moved into the modern age and bought a PS3. The kids love it, well so do we, but most games are for one person. It kinda takes away the “family game night” feeling. I think this year Santa is bringing a Wii, we have seen that this not only usually allows more than one player to play, but they are also a little more physical than some of the others. No matter what, doing something with your kids just brings the family together and makes life so much better when we all step outside of life for a moment and have fun as a family!!!
Posted by orsturgeon | November 29, 2008 @ 5:55 pm
I grew up loving board games, but Wii is my favorite now. Everyone gets involved and has fun together.
Posted by rb73 | November 29, 2008 @ 6:09 pm
we love Wii, but we still play board games too.
Posted by rb73 | November 29, 2008 @ 6:11 pm
“Sorry”, “Life”, “Monopoly”… loved those games and still do.
“Mario Kart”, “Rayman Raving Rabbids” and “Wii Sports”… definitely compete with the old school board games. Can you really make a choice between the two?Posted by swromer | November 29, 2008 @ 7:49 pm
I am a gamer through and through, board games, card games you name it. I love any kind of competition!!!
Posted by sp11180 | November 29, 2008 @ 7:58 pm
I love games of all kind, board games, card games and the Wii rocks!
Posted by sp11180 | November 29, 2008 @ 8:00 pm
Wii Fanatic — Used to love board games, but with Wii, the picking up of the “toys” is so much more convenient, that it has to win.
Posted by karlacn | November 29, 2008 @ 8:56 pm
I LOVE the real thing, and I haveyet to play the Wii….it’s not Christmas yet!!
I would really enjoy the Boggle game. It’s a family favorite, but my mom always complains about the loud noise the cubes make when you shake the box! LOL! Maybe the video game version will eliminate that problem!Posted by carfnie | November 29, 2008 @ 10:03 pm
I like board games the best because no one can beat me at Scrabble!
I’ve also learned to like the Wii since my son and I play together(I’m not afraid to lose). We’re really anxious to try Boogie Superstar with the microphone for Wii!
Thanks for the incredible giveaway. I’ll need to keep my fingers and legs crossed so hurry Santa, hurry!Posted by mannequin | November 29, 2008 @ 10:09 pm
I am definitely in both categories…….I LOVE games. I love the oldies but goodies, the online trivia and arcade and am newly addicted to WII, especially WII fit. I love playing games with the family and even have family and friend “game nights” Lots of good food, fun and laughs.
Posted by Kladda47 | November 29, 2008 @ 10:17 pm
My family grew up playing scrabble, domino’s with the grandparents, and we always loved monopoly. Now as adults my brother and I have started playing game nights with our families. Recently we’ve found that we love playing Wii Mario Kart- him and his wife against me and my boyfriend! Game nights are always fun!
Posted by FlannelGrl | November 29, 2008 @ 10:27 pm
I’m a pretty big Wii fan, but I enjoy most board games as well. My favorite board game is Clue and I think my favorite Wii game would have to be MarioKart. I’m also an old school Nintendo fan and loved all the previous Mario Karts as well!
Posted by angeloears | November 29, 2008 @ 11:35 pm
I really enjoy playing Monopoly but with the Wii now its more fun and with other games the moving that has to be done to play is alot better than sitting on the couch punching buttons
Posted by pacman306 | November 29, 2008 @ 11:53 pm
My boys and I love to play Sorry and Chutes and Ladders, so we are definitely Old School gamers. However, we have had some fun with Wii games, like MarioKart. I can’t wait to play Operation again.
Posted by froggermonster | November 30, 2008 @ 12:58 am
Hey, im probably an old school board gamer. However, i do love the occasional wii game with the family (who cant pass it up?) But the game i would probably be most excited to play would be Smarty Pants. Having fun and learning at the same time is such an amazing experience with the whole family around you (and who doesnt love crushing their dad with all the info you learned from the past bio test). Smarty Pants would deffinatley be my game of choice, but it sounds like all the games on their wouldd be pretty amazing to play!
Posted by pldbritt | November 30, 2008 @ 9:32 am
I use to love playing board games but now I am a wii fanatic for sure!
Posted by hacarlet | November 30, 2008 @ 11:26 am
Lately I have been obsessed with the wii… as a college student and part time nanny it has been the best source of entertainment. I play wii carnival games and wii sports with the kids I babysit. I also have been up until the sun rises playing intense games of mario party for the wii with my roommate. Wii boardgames seems like another perfect excuse to stay up all night addicted to a game. I’m excited to try it.
Posted by nattygill | November 30, 2008 @ 3:49 pm
We don’t have a Wii but are getting one this Christmas. My 7 year old loves to play board games, and my 10 year old is less enthused. But I think we’ll all dig the Wii (that Boogie Superstar sound way cool!). So I’d have to say we are a little bit old school and new wave. All games are good!
Posted by chickensmama | November 30, 2008 @ 4:53 pm
I’m definitely a Wii fanatic, but i’d love to get back into some of the old board games. I can’t wait to play We Ski and Guitar Hero World Tour.
Posted by rcarroll | November 30, 2008 @ 6:26 pm

Posted by calculator | November 30, 2008 @ 6:28 pm
My husband Joe and I are def. Wii fanatics! Joe and I fell in love during a heated game of Tony Hawk. We also have a daughter and board games are always big in our house!

I enjoy family game night “old-school” style..but, definitely have to say that I am a Wii fanatic. I can’t wait to play Smarty Pants!
Posted by Kasper360 | November 30, 2008 @ 9:28 pm
I’d like to believe that I’m the “best of both worlds” - a little old school board game mixed with a Wii obsession! However, If I must choose - it would be an old school board game junkie! We host a monthly board game night with our friends - Cranium and Clue are always the big hits! Can’t wait to play Pictureka with the gang!!!!
Posted by Kimmiesue1202 | November 30, 2008 @ 9:55 pm
I’d say both old and new school for me. I , and my wife Rachael, love games. Our favorite to play us Taboo. The Wii is awesome! The whole family really gets into the Wii Sports game. We don’t have a large selection of Wii games as of yet. Family Game night does sound promissing though.

HI DAN T, I LOVE WATCHING MY 3 GIRLS SIT AND PLAY, WHETHER ITS BOWLING OR ROCKING WITH THE BAND OR SIMPLY RELAXING WITH WII FIT, I REMEMBER WHEN MY MOM SAID WHEN WE WERE YOUNG WE WOULD ALL PLAY SO NICE AND WE DIDNT HAVE MUCH MABE JUST A BALL BUT THAT ONE THING KEPT US ALL HAPPY AND ALL BUSY, BUT MOSTLY ALL TOGETHER, MAKING A MOMENT THAT WILL LAST FOREVER, EVEN IF MY GIRLS DONT APPRECIATE IT NOW , HOPEFULLY WHEN THEY ARE OLDER THEY WILL REMEMBER ALL THE FUN, ITS LEAVING A HEART PRINT WITH THEM. SEE I LOST MY SISTER AT 17 IN A TRAGIC CAR ACCIDENT, AND MY MOM AT 61, AND YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT. MY FAVORITE SAYING IS. “LIFE ISN’T MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT BY THE MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY, AND WATCHING THEM SIT AND PLAY OLD AND NEW GAMES AND JUST GIGLING AND GETTING ALONG. THATS A WOW FACTOR. THATS MY MOMENT THATS WHATS ITS ALL ABOUT . THATS WHAT HASBRO IS FOR!!! AND wii. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. CARMELLA

I know everyone in my family holds the classics close to their hearts, but we are bonafide Wii fanatics! That includes my 6 year old litle girl soundly beating everyone in my family at bowling. From my dad, to her 4 aunts and uncles, she remains the undefeated champ! I personally love Warioware and the Sims series ( I LOVE mini-games). We all have game requests on our Christmas lists- we can’t get enough!

I’m an old school gamer despite my husband’s love of the wii - 4 generations of our family will be together this Christmas for the first time ever and I would love to gather everyone around the Clue board to determine if it was really Miss. Scarlet in the library with the candlestick.
Posted by lexholl | December 1, 2008 @ 10:30 am
We love game boards! Get away from the couch and TV screen, and gather around the kitchen table… at least once a week, to play a good board game! We own the typical monopoly, scrabble, clue, life, risk.. but check out Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico, and the new Stone Age! Hours of family fun!
Posted by cteagle | December 1, 2008 @ 12:31 pm
I think I’m a bit old school, but my husband and kids are not. This year Santa is bringing a Wii for my daughters and I’m hopeful it will continue family game night. Only with more arm swinging etc.
I can’t wait to watch my daughters play Boogie Super Star - that’s right up their alley. And I’m sure I’ll get all sucked in too!
Posted by lauralat | December 1, 2008 @ 2:17 pm
My family is definitely full of Wii fanatics. We live in Florida, so we find it hard to get out and ski/snowboard, but the Wii and the balance board keep us going through the summer months. My friends are big board game enthusiasts though, so I’m sure we’ll be checking out Family Game Night.
Posted by eblafeet | December 1, 2008 @ 3:51 pm
I’m definitely an old school gal, however, my family introduced me to the Wii and I am slowly coming around. We enjoy board games at least 3x a week, and now the WII games are taking up some of our family time too. GREAT giveaway!
Posted by cdziuba | December 1, 2008 @ 5:00 pm
I’ve just been introduced to Wii in the past two months by my 20-something kids. It’s a lot of fun but until I do more of it, I love a good game of Scrabble or Monopoly. I haven’t played Trivial Pursuit in awhile but I like that one as well. Oh yeah, Catch Phrase is a blast with a whole bunch of people!

I love playing both the Wii and old school games. My son and I really get into competitions over the Wii bowling and we love doing the Wii fitness as well. I like the system because there aren’t so many buttons to try to memorize.
However, there are times that we love turning off the TV and the game system and sitting down and breaking out a board game and chatting while we play - it’s slower paced and we seem to enjoy just being together more during that time

Well, for me it’s both! I love Clue but I’m a fantastic bowler using the Wii. The kids are helping with the Sims.

I couldn’t possibly be more old school if I tried! I wasn’t even sure how to pronounce Wii when they first started marketing it. Heck - I thought it was a game about World War II !!!

I love games of any type. I grew up playing both video games and board games. If I had to choose though, I would choose board games. I’d like to try the new edition of Monopoly.

I’m a recent convert to the Wii, having won one in another online contest, but I still have a soft spot for old-fashioned board games. One of my favorites would be Monopoly, so naturally I can’t wait to see what Nintendo has done to jazz it up for the Wii!

I would have to say Wii. I really love to play the monopoly

Family game night is a great tradition that spans the generations. Now more than ever it's so important to get the family to slow down and spend some time together doing something that's fun. So the question is: board games or video games?
