March is one of those weird, in between months for holidays. If you’re Irish, there’s St. Patrick’s Day, but if not, March can feel more like the month after Valentine’s Day than a month to celebrate. But, don’t fret. The question at hand here isn’t what you should be celebrating this month; it’s what shouldn’t you be celebrating? Below is a list I’ve put together of some wacky holidays that are sure to keep you and your pals busy having fun all month long.

We’ve already missed a few…unless you celebrated without us!

For example:

  • National Day of Unplugging (March 1-2, first Friday in March)
  • National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day (March 1)
  • I Want You To Be Happy Day (March 3)
  • Get Over It Day (March 9)

But, we can kick off our celebrations with…

National Open An Umbrella Indoors Day (March 13): Have you always dreamed of opening an umbrella inside but were too superstitious? Well, on March 13, this superstition doesn’t exist! So, go on and open your umbrellas in lobbies, apartments, and restaurants all day long with this get out of jail free card. Who cares whether it’s raining or not!?

National Chip and Dip Day (March 23): Some things are just undeniably better when combined with their other half. Pb & j, for example, mashed potatoes and gravy, cheese and crackers, French fries and ketchup. And alas, what’s a chip without its dip and vice versa, aside from lonely? So, grab your pita chips and hummus, tortilla chips and salsa, corn chips and guacamole, potato chips and sour cream and onion dip and indulge. This holiday is a great excuse to throw a party by the way, so take advantage. You’ve already got the snacks covered!

National Mom & Pop Business Owner’s Day (March 29): Remember the days before corporations took over the world? Sadly, you actually may not, but they did exist. And remnants of those days, while slowly dwindling away, are still out there in the form of the mom and pop shop. So, take this day to support your local bookstore or to buy your morning coffee and donut from a café that isn’t a chain. Chances are that donut is homemade and much more delicious than one that’s been mass-produced.

Who knew there were so many reasons to celebrate in March? Well, now you do, so let the fun begin! Happy March.
