Hey Black Friday! You Are Dead to Me. (Sorry About That.)

It is the holiday shopping season, but the words “Black Friday” don’t make me positively giddy. I love the holidays. I love finding special, memorable gifts to show those in my life how much I care. But join the road-rage filled parking lots, endless checkout lines and Hunger Games-like clamor to be among the first to crash through newly opened doors? And the sales beginning on Thursday that take people away from their family and friends on a holiday? No way. There’s a reason Black Friday was named after the heavy, disruptive traffic that would clog Philadelphia streets the day after Thanksgiving. Instead of sharpening my elbows in crowded malls and big box retailers, I’ll be snug in my PJs waiting for my coffee to counteract any lingering tryptophan — and joyfully shopping online.

Are brick-and-mortar deals really better than what you find online? It depends on the gift, but I have not one iota of fear of missing out. I am happy to save on gas and minimize stress. Plus, many online retailers not only ship gifts for free, they wrap them too. Now that is what I call the holiday spirit!

Just as importantly, shopping online gives me the opportunity to search for gifts that are truly unique. Whether or not you are fighting the Black Friday crowds this year (and if you are, may the odds be ever in your favor), check out some of the most magical gifts for this holiday season—hand-picked by the experts at Gifts.com.
