The New York International Gift Fair is the bi-annual industry gathering for the gift industry. The tradeshow is THE place where 35,000 attendees from all over the globe come to see both the latest trends if gifting as well as to get a look at what the “must-have” gifts will be in the coming months.

While there’s literally over a half million square feet devoted to all types of gifts. The Gift Gurus hit the NYIGF floor in search of fun, unique and ultimately very “gift-able” products from the countless gifts on hand. Here’s one I love:

The Gift: Poppy Childrens Clothing

The Scoop: Poppy Childrens Company is a British clothing company which makes adorable clothing and bedding for babies, kids and adults. They are a small family business who design and print all of their own fabrics. The company was my absolute favorite of gift fair. Already a big hit in Europe, it is more than just the cute designs that draw the attention of kids, stores, parents and the press. Every dress comes with a storybook about the characters Poppy and her dog Fred. Each season Poppy and Fred have a new illustrated story. The dresses feature them on the borders running around the hem, allowing girls to follow the adventures of their favorite characters.

From flower girls dresses to hand-knit mittens, these unique pieces are the perfect edition to any girl’s wardrobe. The company also has an eco side. Leftover fabrics are used to create other items, such as mom purses so there is minimal waste and all manufacturing is kept as local as possible. And knitwear this season comes from a family business based in the Himalayan mountains. Although only currently available in Europe, Poppy Children are set to launch in the US in 2012.

A great gift for: Girly girls with creative imaginations
