Gift Guru’s Run the New York Marathon

I was one of two Gifts.comers (shout out to our speedy tech wizard Michael B.!!) who finished the ING New York City Marathon over the weekend.  What an amazing experience to run with 43K people in front of over 2 million wild spectators.

So it got me thinking.  What are some great gifts for runners?

You could always go the gear route.  A runner can always use another good quality running shirt.  I ran in a Nike Dri-Fit, specially “custom” (home-made) limited edition Gifts.com shirt.  And with cooler and colder months ahead, a running jacket will certainly make runs more comfortable.

Another way to go is the accessory route.  A hydration pack is a great option for long training runs.  My personal must-have running accessory is a Nike+ Sport Kit.  The Sport Kit works with your ipod to provide great workout data which is the uploaded and stored on the Nike+ website.  It’s a great tool for any runner to keep track of runs and to stay inspired.

But the running gift I want, and a gift that would knock the socks off nearly any runner would have to be the Timex Iron Man Global Trainer watch.  This watch is a monster!  The Global  Trainer is a wrist-mounted GPS watch which can provide an athlete with an incredible amount of data about a work out.  Stats like route, time, distance, pace and heart rate are all kept for running, biking and even swimming workouts!  All data can then be uploaded on to the Timex site and analyzed to maximize performance.  This would be an amazing gift!
