Out of the tens of thousands of new toys at the 2013 American International Toy Fair, the soon-to-be-available HOT WHEELS Car Maker set was one of my favorites! Here’s why I love it and why it will be a must-have toy for kids!

Toy Name: The HOT WHEELS Car Maker

The Scoop: Hot Wheels goes DIY! Coming this summer, for the first time, kids will have the ability to custom create their own Hot Wheels cars at home. How’s it work? Hot Wheels explains:

To get started simply select the desired color wax stick which will be used to form the body of the car. Next, select one of the two included car molds used to shape the body of the vehicle. Insert the wax stick in the cast mold, place it into the Car Makers creation chamber, pull down the top lever and a fully customized car gets molded to life! In a matter of minutes, the body of the car is formed into a tough durable shell ready for wheels. Included graphic stickers let boys add a personal touch to their playable ride.

The newly created Car Maker vehicles work with most Hot Wheels® track sets. The Car Maker set includes everything needed to get started with two molds, 10 wax sticks, three chassis and sticker sheets for even more customization.

A Great Gift For: Little lead foots and Hot Wheels fans (ages 5+) who like to construct as much as play.

When & How Much? Hot Wheels Car Maker is due to hit stores in July of 2013 for around $50

This industry only event is where the big sellers for the holidays are determined…yes, they are determined in February!
