Meet the Maker: Jensen Wheeler Wolfe, The Little Yoga Mat
Ever wanted to quit your job, start teaching yoga and become an entrepreneur? That’s exactly what Jensen Wheeler Wolfe, the woman behind The Little Yoga Mat, did. Her company produces children’s yoga mats that are eco-friendly, made without harmful materials, and just the right size for wee yogis. But before becoming a yoga instructor and launching her business, Jensen worked at Glamour magazine and as a TV producer. The Little Yoga Mat was chosen by Dr. Toy as the Best Green Product in 2013 and also received the 2012 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award. We asked her to share a few of the secrets of her success.
How did you come up with this idea?
I love yoga and wanted to somehow make it my business. While teaching yoga to preschoolers, I got the idea to make tot-size mats. I couldn’t find mini mats anywhere, so I decided to create my own.
Why is yoga good for kids?
I haven’t come up with too many reasons why not to do yoga. There is so much stimuli for this generation of kids and sometimes that creates anxiety and fear. Yoga can help kids focus, calm down, and center themselves. There are health benefits too (better sleep, deeper breathing, and circulation). I like that you can do yoga your entire life.
How long have you been practicing yoga? What’s your favorite pose/asana?
I’ve been practicing yoga for 16 years and teaching for 10. I love hand stand; it gives you a great surge of energy.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
A gift from my husband: Tibetan bells, chimes, symbols and a mini gong for my yoga classes. I use them at home too.

I don’t like spending so much time on my computer. This bamboo laptop stand would be great for my laptop, as it adds an earthy vibe to a tech experience.
