The “dog days” of summer are upon us, but that doesn’t stop me from thinking about my favorite feline character, Hello Kitty. Her fun-loving ways and lighthearted designs can make anyone’s summer way more fun, whether you are young, or young at heart. When Hello Kitty was introduced, in 1974, she was marketed as a character for girls, but now, Hello Kitty is beloved by adult fans like me, as well as teens and tweens, and of course, children, the world over. It’s not easy for me to choose the best Hello Kitty products, because there are so many. According to, there are 22,000 Hello Kitty items! But, here are some kawaii (that is the way to say “cute” in Japanese) summertime Hello Kitty goodies.

Deluxe Hello Kitty Swim Gear ($24). This set is perfect for girls ages 4 and older. The set comes with one swim mask, a pair of swim fins, and a pair of webbed gloves for swimming in a pool or in the ocean.

Hello Kitty Kickboard ($14) A lightweight, colorful kickboard helps teach kids how to properly kick and swim.

Hello Kitty Bronzer ($19). For a slightly older Hello Kitty fan, this cosmetic leaves skin lightly tanned, not orange. People will think you have a natural glow, but you can just quietly thank Hello Kitty.

Women’s Hello Kitty Tee Shirt ($9.97). Just because you like Hello Kitty doesn’t mean everything you wear has to be pink. This lightweight shirt is perfect to wear for the summer.

Hello Kitty City Lunch Box ($14.49). A great camp or back-to-school gift.

Girls Hello Kitty Backpack ($19.94) The Hello Kitty backpack is big enough to hold all your favorite Hello Kitty stuff!

Crocs Hello Kitty Mermaid Slip On ($35) A classic slip-on that’s perfect for the beach and is easy to clean up. I hate to tell you this, but they are only available in toddler sizes.  Maybe they’ll make them in my size next summer … a girl can dream, right?
